The Quietening brings a queer conversion therapy story to Camden Fringe this August
A queer play about conversion therapy and chosen family comes to the Cockpit Theatre for two nights only
Half Light Creative's second production asks what happens when someone refuses to give up on a person who has spent decades learning to push everyone away.
When Jacob's estranged mother dies, he has to face a past he has spent years trying to outrun. Grumpy, withdrawn and marked by the lasting effects of conversion therapy, he has built his life around keeping people at a distance. Ethan is not interested in respecting those walls.
As their relationship deepens, Jacob begins to confront memories that have been buried for decades and finds that healing might actually be possible. The Quietening is a story about chosen family, queer community and what happens when someone refuses to give up on you.
Half Light Creative made their debut with Five, which received four and five-star responses. The Quietening is their second production.
Content warnings include references to conversion therapy, religious trauma, homophobia, bereavement and scenes depicting vomiting. Strobe and flashing lights. Age guidance 16 and above.
