Press

Flicker is an independent LGBTQ+ publication covering film, theatre, music, arts events, festivals, and exhibitions. Part of Lexme Media Group, we reach queer and allied audiences across the UK and internationally in print and digitally. Our coverage is critical and editorial. We cover work because it deserves attention.

Flicker is a registered publication with the ISSN International Centre. Print ISSN: 2979-3165. Online ISSN: 2979-3173.

For PR Agents & Publicists

Send us a screener link in whatever format you use. We accept Vimeo, Screener.io, FilmFreeway, Festival Scope, Google Drive, WeTransfer, or any equivalent platform. For theatre, send press night invitations with full production details. For music and exhibitions, send a release or preview link together with a brief description of the work.

We do not publish press releases verbatim. Every piece of Flicker coverage is original editorial written by one of our editors or contributors.

Press Night Invitations: Coverage may include a preview news article, social media coverage, and a review.

Ahead of opening, we publish a preview news article in our News section, accompanied by an Instagram story. Following the press night, we publish a full review in our Shows section, accompanied by an Instagram post.

Send your invitation with venue, dates, full production details, and press contact details. We will review the information and confirm attendance where possible.

Press night coverage is not limited to queer or LGBTQ+ productions. If we attend, we provide editorial coverage.

Listings consideration for our What's On page is separate. Productions are listed only if they meet our queer, queer friendly, or inclusive criteria. Please include in your submission: title, format (film, theatre, music, exhibition, or event), release or opening date, a one paragraph synopsis or description, and any relevant press assets.

Sending material does not guarantee coverage. If we decide to cover your work, we will contact you directly, typically within 2 to 10 working days of submission. Due to the volume of submissions we receive, we are not able to respond to every enquiry individually, but we read everything that arrives.

Send all press material to press@lexme.red. For physical press kits & brochures, email first for the postal address.

For same-day or next-day events, use our contact form and select Flicker Magazine and Urgent Enquiry.

Not sure whether editorial or advertising is the right fit for your project? If you are looking for confirmed placement rather than editorial consideration, our Advertise page has options across print, digital, and social.

For Independent Artists & Filmmakers

You do not need a PR agent or a distributor to pitch your work to Flicker. If you are an independent filmmaker, artist, musician, or theatre maker, get in touch directly.

Tell us what you have made, when it is available or opening, and why it is relevant to Flicker's audience. A paragraph is enough to start a conversation. Include a screener link, preview, or press asset if you have one.

We are particularly interested in self-distributed work, debut features, festival circuit films without UK distribution, and queer-made work at any scale.

Send your pitch to press@lexme.red with the subject line: Creator submission, followed by the title of your work.

If you would like to guarantee coverage of your work, whether an interview, a review, or a feature, our editorial partnership options are available on the Advertise page.

For Writers & Contributors

Flicker is open to pitches from writers, critics, and journalists. We are looking for reviews, interviews, features, and festival coverage that centre queer stories, queer voices, or queer perspectives on film, theatre, music, and arts and culture. The strongest pitches come from voices that are not already everywhere, writers from outside the standard critical establishment, with perspectives that bring something the work has not already been given.

Read the site before you reach out. Include a one-paragraph outline, the angle, why now, and a short note on your background and any relevant published work. For a review, include the title, release date, and how you saw it, a press screening, festival access, a screener link, or a public release. For a feature or interview, include why the subject is right for Flicker specifically.

We pay for reviews of approved or commissioned film titles, and for shows we attend in London. Paid show coverage will extend to other UK cities over time. Features and interviews are commissioned individually, with rates agreed on a case by case basis.

We cannot guarantee a response to every pitch but we read everything that arrives.

Send contributor pitches to press@lexme.red with the subject line: Editorial pitch, followed by the subject of your piece.
