BAFTA 2026 Winners as One Battle After Another Takes Six Awards

The 79th British Academy Film Awards took place at London’s Royal Festival Hall on 22 February, hosted by Alan Cumming. It was billed as one of the most competitive seasons in recent memory. By the end of the ceremony, one film had pulled ahead.
One Battle After Another arrived with 14 nominations and left with six awards. It won Best Film, Best Director for Paul Thomas Anderson, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and Best Supporting Actor for Sean Penn. The thriller did not just lead the nominations. It controlled the room.
Sinners followed closely behind. With 13 nominations, Ryan Coogler’s film secured three wins: Best Original Screenplay, Best Original Score, and Best Supporting Actress for Wunmi Mosaku.
Frankenstein, directed by Guillermo del Toro, swept major craft categories with three wins, reinforcing how strongly technical achievement shaped this year’s ceremony.
There was also a historic moment. Boong became the first Manipuri language film to win a BAFTA, taking Children’s and Family Film and beating Zootopia 2, one of the year’s biggest global releases.
Other key wins included Hamnet for Outstanding British Film and Best Actress for Jessie Buckley, along with I Swear earning Best Actor for Robert Aramayo.
BAFTA 2026 did not split attention evenly. It had a clear leader. Yet across acting, screenplay and craft, the spread of winners showed a year defined by strong direction, controlled performances and ambitious scale.
