Departures, the self-funded working-class LGBTQ+ comedy-drama that premiered at BFI Flare, is available now on Apple TV, Prime Video, BFI Player and more.
Lloyd Eyre-Morgan and Neil Ely made Departures the hard way. Self-funded, made by a collective of working-class LGBTQ+ filmmakers from Manchester, it premiered at BFI Flare in March 2025 and has been building word of mouth ever since. Following its cinema release, it is now available to stream on Apple TV, Now TV, Prime Video, YouTube Movies and BFI Player, with the BFI Player version available from 18 May.
The film follows Benji, played by Eyre-Morgan himself, who meets Jake at an airport gate. What follows is two years of secret monthly trips to Amsterdam, a relationship that Jake refuses to acknowledge outside those trips, and the slow unravelling of someone who has spent a lifetime going for men who cannot give him what he needs. The film starts at the end, at the breakup, and works backwards through the relationship and further back into the adolescence that shaped it.
Russell T Davies called it "honest, raw, tough, wildly funny and powerfully heartfelt." Russell Tovey described it as "very beautiful and deeply moving." Those are not small endorsements. The cast alongside Eyre-Morgan includes David Tag from Hollyoaks and Waterloo Road, Tyler Conti from The Gentlemen, Liam Boyle, Kimberly Hart-Simpson from Coronation Street and Lorraine Stanley from EastEnders.
Departures jumps between multiple timelines with ease, and its comedy, drama and lived experience combine in a way that feels genuinely one of a kind. For anyone who missed the cinema run, now is the time.
Available now on Apple TV, Now TV, Prime Video, YouTube Movies, BFI Player and Peccadillo Player.
