Q-IFTUK launches as a new platform for queer Irish artists in the UK

Q-IFTUK is a new LGBTQ+ division within IFTUK, launched following the response to the Irish Pride Film Festival earlier this year. The focus is on queer Irish filmmakers and artists working across film, television, writing, and performance, including those based in the UK and within the wider Irish diaspora.
The initiative is led by Derek Murphy, actor, presenter, and co founder of the Irish Pride Film Festival. Q-IFTUK is set up as a year round platform rather than a one off programme. It supports finished work, early stage projects, and ideas in development through screenings, talks, workshops, and live events. Submissions and proposals are open to artists at different stages of their practice.
The first public Q-IFTUK event takes place during LGBTQ History Month with a special edition of Masters at Work on Tuesday 24 February at the Century Club in London. Hosted by Derek Murphy, the event focuses on discussion around writing, process, and working within the industry.

The panel includes:
• Amy Clarke, an award winning screenwriter whose short film Sequins screened at international festivals and who is currently developing work for stage and television.
• Alan Flanagan, a writer, script editor, and lecturer with over fifteen years of experience across television, audio drama, and script development.
• Jack C Irwin, a writer and filmmaker whose work explores historical and social themes through film and television.
The event will be followed by informal networking at the Century Club. Entry is free. Booking is required via julie@IFTUK.com.
According to Carey, Chair of IFTUK, the creation of Q-IFTUK responds directly to what the Irish Pride Film Festival revealed. “The festival showed there was a real appetite for queer Irish work,” Carey says. “Q-IFTUK allows us to continue that work throughout the year and build on the focus on diversity and inclusivity that has shaped IFTUK for over fifteen years.”
Q-IFTUK will continue to roll out events and opportunities across the coming months.
